Tea break
Something different grabs my attention almost every day. I’m inspired by the people I meet, the things I do and the places I visit. Family, friends and colleagues are important to me. What motivates you? My zest for life, HR practices and recruitment trends, my garden and passion for baking all influence how I work. I’ve bundled up some of my thoughts and ideas into a few different collections.
So why not make yourself a drink, download my latest story and think about what you want to change? Go on, let yourself go and think crazy or outrageous. It’s how change happens.

In search of Willy Wonka’s fantastic world
What would it take to win that golden ticket? And what would you do with it?
All the fun of the farm and more …
To say that this year has been a rollercoaster is probably an understatement. I started thinking about my ambition for 2023 about this time last year ..
Could’ve, should’ve, would’ve …
When did you last wonder how things could’ve been different? And what did you do about it? All too often we live with the feeling of being …
Food for thought ...
I’ve concluded that I’m as addicted to Recruitment (and all things recruitment) as much as I’m addicted to all things food. Yes, and I’m finally admitting …
The work edit - declutter, detox and destress
Last weekend I encouraged you to “live in the moment” and discard some of life’s excesses to help with that … Maybe it’s time to archive some emails or clear your mind of clutter?
Recruitment chit chat
Back in the early nineties John Gray wrote about psychological differences between men and women – remember the Mars and Venus analagy? Although this stereotypical interpretation is …
Has recruitment has its day?
It’s a question I’ve been asking on and off for more than 20 years. My answers have varied …
A Diva's Ambitions
What a year it’s been already. Glorious hellebores smiling at me by the front door and everything to look forward to as the garden matures. Snowdrops next …
What's in a name?
I’ve been known by many different names over the years and most of them polite. Come to think of it, they’ve all been polite …
Gymnast, goldsmith or something else?
What do you want to be when you grow up? Such a strange question asked of me (and others) so many times during my (our) childhood years …
Self-care what’s on your list?
There are times when only a list will do. After a few hectic months at work, I’m conscious that I’ve been losing sight of the things I need to do for me.
Recruitment, back to basics
Hands up, I am not very good at listening to myself and the advice I often give to others. I am a bit of a magnet for other people’s problems and challenges. It just happens that way …
Help needed, apply within
Applying for jobs has never been a breeze, although some candidates find it so much easier than others to organise their thoughts, answer questions and stick with it.
Something fizzy in the sunshine
It could be a new idea, an aspiration or a glass of sparkling water and perhaps a glass of champagne, although it’s always better when the sun shines.
Which door would you choose?
Job adverts are the front door to your business and work opportunities. They’re often read by your customers …
We’d like to invite you to an interview
How does this phrase make you feel? Throughout my career I’ve interviewed thousands of people and been interviewed – sometimes well and other times, I try to forget.
Are we making recruitment too difficult?
“Why don’t we simplify recruitment?” – it’s a loaded question and one I ask myself (as well as my clients) frequently. We dream of applications from amazing candidates …
Sunday social (goldfish style)
A glorious day in the garden to celebrate the arrival of Spring. I missed that extra hour in bed as a rather fierce sounding hornet woke me up this morning, but it spurred me on to …
Show your appreciation
What talents there are to excite our senses. I was delighted that many of the great and good of film were out to support the Arts on Sunday evening at the BAFTA awards.
Unicorns apply here
Are we making interviews complicated? It’s a question I’ve been asking myself for so many years, my head hurts!
