Tea break
Something different grabs my attention almost every day. I’m inspired by the people I meet, the things I do and the places I visit. Family, friends and colleagues are important to me. What motivates you? My zest for life, HR practices and recruitment trends, my garden and passion for baking all influence how I work. I’ve bundled up some of my thoughts and ideas into a few different collections.
So why not make yourself a drink, download my latest story and think about what you want to change? Go on, let yourself go and think crazy or outrageous. It’s how change happens.

Watching the birds or commuting?
There’s a Blackbird in the garden this afternoon, who’s learned to hover over the Sarcococca and knock off the shiny black berries. Once they’re on the ground, he rummages around …
Learning to fidget
I received some liberating advice earlier this week. A further instalment to my observations about how we work. It seems that now I need to be a foot fidget. I’m excited by the prospect. Why not join me?
It's been a while ...
Some time ago (mid-July) I shared my latest wedding cake plans and mentioned that I’d keep you posted on progress. And it’s been an eventful couple of months. Here’s what happened …
Passion, skill, collaboration and leadership
This could be a recruitment advertisement for any forward-thinking organisation, although it’s what I saw played out at Wembley yesterday evening.
Lazy Sunday afternoon anyone?
Live in the moment – how often have I written or spoken that phrase? And how often have I taken my own advice?
Ambitions or achievements … what motivates you?
Another week and fresh opportunities for us all to shine bright. If you’re anything like me, you’ll begin each week with a plan and then see where it takes you.
Let’s talk CVs and bees
It’s a while since I wrote about CVs and their value in securing conversations about new roles or opportunities. Sometimes it’s easy to dismiss their importance because …
Asparagus for tea and positivity
A trip to a local farm shop to buy Asparagus in the middle of a sleet storm and of course I’d end up striking up a conversation …
Celebrate more stories to come
It’s a gloriously sunny Saturday morning and the Tits are already at work …
Planes, trains and ... Salsa anyone?
There are some happy golfers sitting in the sunshine this afternoon wondering how they will ever get out of their chairs again …
Celebrate … it’s Spring
Fantastic achievements, new opportunities and fresh challenges, that’s what Springtime means to me. Bring it on, I say, anything’s possible now. Let’s cheer …..
Old dogs, new tricks and spellings
This week I’ve been taught how to use some of the features of Zoom which I didn’t know existed, so that’s two learning triumphs on the same day. My teacher clearly knows her stuff …
Laughter, lights and learning
What have you learned about yourself this year? I’ve learned that writing is extremely relaxing, as well as enjoyable. Thanks to everyone who’s liked, commented or messaged me …
Lockdown (No.2) pastimes
That’s a wrap … for this Saturday afternoon at least. The earlier sunshine was inviting and enticed us outside. The Autumn leaves seemed even more resplendent than ever this morning. Yes, it was definitely time for a mug of Yorkshire brew and some deadheading or cutting back.
Updating recruitment for 2020 lifestyles
I am going to write and publish a book., “How To Be The Best Candidate You Know How To Be, Every Single Time”. It’s been whirring around in my head for a while and the positive feedback on my blog stories has been the catalyst for this reality check.
Postcard from Aldeburgh
Writing about my ideas to create positivity or zing (such a refreshing concept) I concluded that it was time to rebalance my own approach with a walk by the sea.
It's time to find your zing
I’m proud of my knowledge and I’m proud of my skills, although it’s my personality that brings these qualities together and creates my strengths. It’s like adding a twist of lime to make my drink zing.
Hobbies and interests are back on the menu
There was something of a baking renaissance earlier this year as staying in became the new going out. Now that temperatures are dropping and we’re all clambering back inside, what are you going to bake this season?
The ultimate tea break
Last week I laughed out loud at the Yorkshire Tea video which featured the social distancing tea pot – pure genius. The creativity reeled me in and let’s face it, who doesn’t love a cuppa while they’re working?
In search of Sid the slug ...
I’ve taken my eye off the horticultural ball for too long since lockdown eased a little. My love of our garden is undisputed although since it’s been acceptable to entertain al fresco, I’ve taken the garden for granted more than I should …
